Arsenic-Induced Oxidative Stress and Antioxidant Defense in Plants

چکیده
The non-essential metalloid arsenic (As) is widely distributed in soil and underground water of many countries. Arsenic contamination a concern because it creates threat to food security terms crop productivity safety. Plants exposed As show morpho-physiological, growth developmental disorder which altogether result loss productivity. At physiological level, As-induced altered biochemistry chloroplast, mitochondria, peroxisome, endoplasmic reticulum, cell wall, plasma membrane causes reactive oxygen species (ROS) overgeneration damage through disintegrating the structure lipids, proteins, DNA. Therefore, plants tolerance ROS-induced oxidative stress vital strategy for enhancing plants. having enhanced antioxidant defense system greater toxicity. Depending upon plant diversity (As hyperaccumulator/non-hyperaccumulator or tolerant/susceptible) mechanisms accumulation, absorption toxicity response may differ. There can be various management practices such as exogenous application nutrients, hormones, antioxidants, osmolytes, signaling molecules, different chelating agents, microbial inoculants, organic amendments etc. effective against information gap understanding mechanism (damage response) This review presents uptake accumulation plants, responses under stress, ROS generation response, approaches from available literatures will make date knowledge, knowledge future guideline worked out development tolerant cultivars.

Oxidative Stress and Antioxidant Defense
Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are produced by living organisms as a result of normal cellular metabolism and environmental factors, such as air pollutants or cigarette smoke. ROS are highly reactive molecules and can damage cell structures such as carbohydrates, nucleic acids, lipids, and proteins and alter their functions. The shift in the balance between oxidants and antioxidants in favor of ...
متن کاملArsenic and Oxidative Stress in Pentylenetetrazole-induced Seizures in Mice
Background and Objective: Chronic arsenic toxicity is a widespread problem; the role of brain oxidative stress has been suggested in the genesis of epilepsy and in the post-seizure neuronal death. However, studies investigating the effects of arsenic on seizure and related mechanisms are limited. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of prolonged exposure to sodium arsenite on oxi...
متن کاملAn Assessment of Oxidative Stress and Antioxidant System Activity in Alfalfa Plants Treated with Different Forms of Mineral Arsenic
Arsenic (As), a metalloid and unnecessary element, is highly toxic to living organisms. It can be accumulated in the environment and enter the food chains through uptake by plants. The present study was designed to assess the response of antioxidant defense system of alfalfa to As (As0, As3+ and As5+) induced oxidative stress at four rates (0, 100, 200, and 300 µM) as a completely randomized de...
متن کاملOxidative stress and antioxidant defense in Egyptian favism patients.
BACKGROUND Favism occurs as the result of intolerance to the ingesting of fava beans or to the inhalation of pollen from the Vicia faba plant. Patients with favism are always Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD)-deficient, but not all G6PD-deficient individuals develop hemolysis as a result of fava beans consumption. PATIENTS AND METHODS Blood samples were collected from children with fav...
